This program is designed for teachers with a valid five-year renewable Virginia teacher's license who wish to add an endorsement as a school library media specialist. Qualified applicants will be admitted to the University of Virginia's College at Wise Endorsement Program after review and approval of their credentials. The application deadline is September 1, 2010. Admission will be offered to the first thirty qualified applicants.
The University of Virginia's College at Wise will offer a Virginia Department of Education approved library media program leading to endorsement in Library Media PreK-12. The program will consist of 15 undergraduate credits from UVA Wise plus an additional 9 graduate credits from the University of Virginia School of Continuing and Professional Studies. It is also possible to transfer in courses with advisor permission. Financial aid is available for admitted students.
The program will be offered as a cohort with each course offered once in the cycle. Courses will be taught either face-to-face via video-conferencing, in a hybrid format, or online. Video-conferencing sites will include Roanoke, Martinsville and Richmond.

The program will begin in late September 2010. The expected sequence of courses include:
Fall 2010 LIBR 3100 Reference and Bibliography
PSED 6518 Children's Literature
Spring 2011 LIBR 3200 Technical Services
PSED 6515 Design, Production and Evaluation of Instructional Media
Summer 2011 LIBR 3300 School Library Administration
PSED 6517 Young Adult Literature
Fall 2011 LIBR 3840 Internship in School Librarian Administration (if needed)
Upon successful completion of program requirements, the University of Virginia's College at Wise program administrator will recommend candidates to the Virginia Dept. of Education as a program completer eligible for the PreK-12 Library Media Endorsement.
