eSports Coming to NCI

Karen Jackson, Interim Executive Director announced today that Martinsville native and iRacing driver Josh Williams will be joining NCI as its first eSports program coordinator.

Williams, Ryan Blaney’s spotter for NASCAR Cup and winner of the first Replacements 100 Esports race will be charged with leading NCI’s efforts to engage students of all ages in eSports related activities and to launch programs and opportunities that will build excitement not just for eSports competitions, but also for related careers in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) disciplines.

“The eSports industry has seen tremendous growth – both in revenue and viewership. Industry experts predict that by 2022, eSports will generate more than $1.58 billion in total revenue”, said Karen Jackson. “I am ecstatic to have Josh join the NCI team. His knowledge, talent, and expertise coupled with fact that he is participating and winning at an elite level of iRacing brings an added level of credibility and opportunity.
