New College Institute to Offer Amazon Web Services Training in Southern Virginia

Martinsville, Va. – New College Institute (NCI) is pleased to announce a collaborative effort with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to provide cloud computing skills development and job training through the AWS re/Start program. The first AWS re/Start cohort at NCI is scheduled to begin in Fall 2020. NCI and AWS will host informational AWS re/Start webinars on August 5 to provide details on employer, partnership, and participant opportunities.

The Unmanned Systems Association of Virginia (USAV) is a non-profit coalition focused on promoting a legal and regulatory framework that supports innovation, collaboration and growth in the unmanned systems industry in the Commonwealth. Bluefield College, NCI Announce New Partnership to Offer Master of Arts in Counselor Education Degree Program

Martinsville –New College Institute (NCI) and Bluefield College announced a partnership today to offer a Master of Arts degree in Counselor Education beginning with the fall 2020 semester.

This partnership aims to provide access to graduate-level training in Counselor Education with tracks in both clinical mental health and school counseling in Southern Virginia.  Students seeking admission to the MA program can expect flexible programming options (full and part-time), online and hybrid delivery with intensives held on-campus in Bluefield and at NCI, and adherence to CACREP standards and outcomes.

As the global community seeks to quickly deliver more health services virtually, the telehealth course completion rate at New College Institute’s Southside Telehealth Training Academy and Resource Center (NCI STAR Telehealth) has increased more than 100% over the past six months. eSports Coming to NCI

Karen Jackson, Interim Executive Director announced today that Martinsville native and iRacing driver Josh Williams will be joining NCI as its first eSports program coordinator.

Williams, Ryan Blaney’s spotter for NASCAR Cup and winner of the first Replacements 100 Esports race will be charged with leading NCI’s efforts to engage students of all ages in eSports related activities and to launch programs and opportunities that will build excitement not just for eSports competitions, but also for related careers in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) disciplines.

“The eSports industry has seen tremendous growth – both in revenue and viewership. Industry experts predict that by 2022, eSports will generate more than $1.58 billion in total revenue”, said Karen Jackson. “I am ecstatic to have Josh join the NCI team. His knowledge, talent, and expertise coupled with fact that he is participating and winning at an elite level of iRacing brings an added level of credibility and opportunity.
